Hi! I'm Mackenzie!
Owner and creator of Wildflour sourdough.
Married to my husband, Michael, since 2013, we've been blessed with our beautiful little boy, Grant. As a full-time stay-at-home mom and homemaker, my world revolves around the things I'm most passionate about; baking, capturing moments through photography, and nurturing my family.
When I first started making sourdough bread in early 2023, I never in a million years thought I'd make a business out of it. My mission at the time was to switch my family to a pure and healthy lifestyle.
After a rough pregnancy and birth of my son in early 2021, my health started to steadily decline. I had a laundry list of symptoms; my quality of life was plummeting, and doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Test after test left me feeling defeated and hopeless.
Until I one day stumbled upon a company whose mission was to teach people about clean living and healing the body through food. Amazed, I immediately immersed myself into the world of nutrition and holistic well-being, researching and reading countless books, teaching myself about nutrition and detoxifying our home. I transitioned into cooking with organic whole foods, "eating the rainbow" - as they called it and using food as medicine. We even welcomed a flock of chickens into our lives! Over the next year my body slowly began to heal itself.
All these experiences laid the groundwork, leading me on a journey to discover the world of sourdough.
Gluten had been making me sick for years and I had completely cut it out of my diet thinking that was the only solution. Until I learned about sourdough and all its amazing health and digestive benefits.
The prolonged fermentation process breaks down the gluten protein in the wheat making it much easier for the body to digest. Not only is it easier to digest but it's also packed full of nutrients, assists in lowering blood sugar levels and acts as a prebiotic, feeding the "good" bacteria in your gut. Inspired, I created Flora, our sourdough starter and began the exciting journey of sourdough baking!
Now I have a rich and varied diet, full of delicious sourdough products and I can't wait to share them all with you!
